Native American poverty; hunger; homelessness; alcohol & substance abuse; domestic violence; bullying; homophobia; and teen suicide. Our nonprofit promotes youth-led rural development teaching rural youth to focus on their strengths, passions and community or world needs. Our youth at the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe recently wrote, directed, acted, and produced a film called Escape that has been invited to the White House to address teen suicide in Indian Country and we have been invited to screen the film at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as 6 other screening invitations! The film reveals the harsh life teens live on Native American reservations and yet provides hope for a better future when the two lead actors decide that suicide is not the answer.
